You learn basic Shogi rules and moves of pieces in “Shogi Lesson Book for Beginners Vol. 1”. The objective of “Shogi Lesson Book for Beginners Vol. 2” is to acquire “basic techniques to play a Shogi game”. Based on this theme, each lesson plan is designed.

When children learn Shogi, not a few of them find difficulties in the next step, which they will have after understanding the basic rules and remembering moves. Even though children have acquired enough knowledge of moves, many of them tend to feel that they are not ready to learn tactics and skilful moves of each piece. And also, they usually don’t have a good guideline for moves that they can follow. They find it difficult to end a game, as well.

“Shogi Lesson Book for Beginners Vol. 2” is a Shogi textbook to solve problems that beginner children often have. This textbook deals with several basic Shogi techniques and knowledges that children can easily understand. For example, Shogi is a game in which players exchange pieces; each piece has its own value; what the efficient way to capture the opponent’s Gyoku is; and what the purpose of using hand piece is, and so on.

Moreover, some detailed rules, such as “Uchi Fu zume” (an illegal move where a player directly checkmated with dropping Fu), are covered. Pieces with two Chinese characters, which are mainly used in tournaments or Shogi classes, are also introduced. So, after finishing this textbook, children may have a goal to participate in “Shogi tournaments for children”. Setting a goal can encourage children to keep their motivations high.

Introductory Shogi Textbook, “Shogi Lesson Book for Beginners Vol. 2” has a chapter in which children can get familiar with two characters pieces used in Shogi classes and tournaments.
After mastering “Shogi Lesson Book for Beginners Vol. 2”, children might want to participate in Shogi tournaments for children.
